Directions For A Berry Easter Basket

Before you begin to decorate the basket, make sure to wash it with soap and water and allow the basket to dry. Collect the supplies you will need including ribbon, lace and pipe cleaners in colors that you feel will suit the project. Also decide whether to use hot glue or craft glue. Hot glue is not recommended for small children unless the adults will be handling this part.

Begin by weaving ribbon in between the berry basket sections. You can weave large or small sections or alternate between the two for a distinctive look. When you have gone all the way around the basket, glue the ends together. Repeat the weaving procedure until you have covered the entire basket.

Next, you will make the handle. The first option for the handle is to braid pipe cleaners together and wrap the ends around a section on each side of the basket. If the pipe cleaners are not long enough, twist two or more together, end to end, to make the handle a more appropriate size.

If you do not like this look, try cutting a strip of cardboard from an old cereal box or other food container. This should be about 1-2” in width. Paint the strip and allow it to dry. You may even choose to decorate the handle with other paint colors or embellishments like glitter, stickers or sequins. Attach the handle by bending the cardboard strip and gluing the ends to the inside of the basket. Hot glue works best for this option.

One more option with the pipe cleaners if you do not prefer the appearance, is to wrap the pipe cleaner handle with ribbon. Secure the ends of the ribbon with glue. You will attach the handle in the same manner, wrapping the ends of the pipe cleaners around the sides of the basket.

Finally, cover the top edges of the basket with lace. Glue the lace around the edges and be sure to cover and unfinished areas, such as where the handle is attached. This will give the basket a polished look. Fill the basket with Easter grass and you are ready to fill it with treats.
